Hank Williams Sr.

An Alabamian by birth and upbringing, Hank Williams Sr., also known as Luke the Drifter, represented one of country music's biggest stars before his death in 1953. Born in Butler County, Alabama in 1923, Hank Williams Sr. and his mother moved to Montgomery in 1937. Steadily working on his craft as a musician and performer, Williams secured a recording contract in 1946. By the late 1940s he became a star and his death in 1953 secured his legendary status. Williams Sr. is not actually buried in the main part of Oakwood. In the 1930s the Oakwood Annex opened. When he died in 1953, Williams' family buried him in the Oakwood Annex. [10]
